Recently, The New York Times ran a story on "Pushing Limits of the Human Life Span." It covered a conference in Los Angeles of a group of "eminent academic scientists who have reputations to think of." The Times reported that this distinguished group of scientists agrees that science is on the verge of "significantly" extending the human lifespan. How significantly? Up "to 150, 200 or more years" is the group's consensus. The Times concluded: "The question no longer is, Will it happen?‚ But rather When?"

The cover of Esquire, the respected men's magazine, recently asked "CAN YOU LIVE FOREVER?" Inside was a special 12-page report including a meditation on "A World of Immortal Men" by Edward O. Wilson, the distinguished and renowned Harvard professor, scientist, and intellectual. And what does Wilson, the recipient of the National Medal of Science and two-time Pulitzer-prize winner, think of our prospect for immortality? "I see no reason why humanity and the species as a whole cannot be immortal," the Harvard professor concludes.
Two months earlier, in its Op-Ed page , the New York Times ran a piece titled "Life on the Far Side of 150." A Princeton University bioethicist informs Times reader that "the normal human life span will eventually more than double, extending up to perhaps 200 years. And even at nine score and ten, people will remain pneumatic and supple, able to bound from exercycle to jogging path without losing a breath."

The reality is we are not just facing the prospect of 200 years in youthful splendor. We are facing the real prospect of Virtual Immortality. Yes, it is mindboggling to digest. Old Age and Death are no longer necessary or acceptable. We are either the last to grow old and die, or the first to stay young and live forever. We choose to be the first to stay young and live forever.

Our goal is simple: kill Old Age and Death!

We demand that the conquest of Old Age and Death be the number one priority of every society on the planet.

We demand a dramatic increase in funding for anti-aging life extension research since Old Age and Death will surely kill every one of us otherwise.

The rationale behind the Immortalist agenda: Humanity cannot be truly happy until it has banished Aging and Death.

The Death Ideology, the ideology which worships a changeable biological reality as immutable ontological essence, must be overthrown. This Mortalism which makes us submit and grovel to Old Age and Death must fall like the walls of Jericho.

Accepting Old Age and Death is a perversion of our natural instinct for self-preservation. The only ones who are not afraid of Old Age and Death: the clinically depressed, the Haters of Life.

We indict Old Age and Death as the root cause of all human misery, neurosis, and depression. As long as Old Age and Death exist, there can be no true happiness. We expose evil as the dance of mortals playing god. We convict Old Age and Death for crimes against humanity.

In the beginning was The Dream. The conquest of aging and death. The attainment of the elixir of youth. The advent of physical immortality. The Dream is about to come true.

In the not too distant future - in our lifetimes, we will no longer grow old or die, as humans have since time immemorial.

Humanity‚s epic struggle against Mortality is about to end with a decisive victory. Our weapons include diet, science, medicine, molecular biology, genetic engineering, cloning, artitificial intelligence, nanotechnology, whatever it takes. Success is inevitable.

Immortality is our Evolutionary Destiny.

The Immortalist Interpretation of History

History is the story of our quest for immortality.

The fear of Death and the desire for Immortality are the primary motivations in human life and history.

The goal of human history and civilization is the conquest of Death. The meaning of life is life. The goal of life is more and better life.

Human history is a protracted struggle against Death. It is the history of our individual and collective efforts to escape the clutches of mortality - the history of our unflagging desire for immortality.

The goal of human history is simple and unchanging: it is to break out from the chains of mortality.

What seems to be the problem? Death! What else?

Contrary to the propaganda of The Death Ideology, even Jesus was "greatly distressed and troubled" in the face of death. (Mark 14:33)

To be afraid of Death is not only universal, it is also natural. Our Fear of Death arises from our Instinct for Self-Preservation.

Therefore, to accept Old Age and Death is nothing less than the perversion of our most basic biological instinct.

Mortality is the unique problem of the human species. Homo Sapiens is the only species burdened with full consciousness of its finiteness. This awareness of our mortality is intolerably complicated by our capacity to dream of an i mmortal state.

The question of the rich young ruler in the gospels has always been the question: what must we do to gain eternal life?

Throughout history, many answers have been given. By prophets, magicians, priests, mystics, hermits, alchemists, philosophers, artists, kings, rebels and revolutionaries. Countless creeds and ideologies each purport to show us the way. They have, in the final analysis, fallen short and failed. This is why no one answer has emerged as the answer. This is why the quest continues.

We cannot shut off our consciousness of Death completely. We cannot be distracted from its shadow all of the time. Nor can our capacity for denial protect us ultimately.

Death is a biological problem. Therefore, it demands a biological solution.
